Knowing the details of your credit report could reveal fraud that\u2019s already going on. Checking your Credit Report every year is helpful in the prevention of Identity Theft. Look for old or inaccurate information. Also, check for anything that looks fishy\u2014it could be a sign of identity theft.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Placing a freeze on credit reports<\/h2><\/div>

Contact each of the nationwide credit report companies:<\/p>\n

Equifax – 1-800-349-9960
\nExperian – 1-888-397-3742
\nTransUnion – 1-888-909-8872
\nYou will need to supply your name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, and other personal information. Fees vary based on where you live but commonly range from $5 to $10.<\/p>\n

After receiving your freeze request, the credit reporting company will then send you a confirmation letter containing a unique PIN (personal identification number or password. Keep the PIN or password in a safe place. You will need it if you choose to lift the freeze.<\/p>\n
